Several people were injured when two fishing boats collided on Lake Guntersville around noon on Saturday.Three men were pulled from the water, two were transported to Huntsville Hospital with critical injuries and one was treated on the scene.
Rescue crews, who were already in the water nearby searching for the body of Deonte Griffin, responded quickly after hearing the collision.
Marine Police and members of the Guntersville Rescue squad quickly recovered the men and transported them to the boat ramp at County Park No.2 where medical crews awaited.
Med Flight was called for, but could not respond due to the weather. Marshall Medical Ambulances transported the men to Huntsville.
According to officials, the accident happened in open water near a main channel navigation buoy west of the river bridge around 12:15pm. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but officials speculate that the two drivers just didn’t see each other. All three boaters were ejected from the vessels.
The amount of boat traffic on the lake was extremely high on Saturday as several large amateur bass tournaments where in town.
The wrecked boats where towed to the boat ramp at County Park No.2.
Names of those involved will not be released until later after families have been notified.
Alabama Marine Police, Guntersville Rescue Squad, Guntersville Fire Dept., and the Georgia Mtn. Volunteer Fire Dept. all responded to the accident.
